Mike Gallagher has been following Newt Gingrich around on the campaign trail for a few days. While at an event in South Carolina, Mike Gallagher plays a recorded interview he did with Newt beforehand and then interviews him live at the event.
Here’s the pre-recorded interview. Newt talks about the mechanics of his campaign (for an old guy he seems to know more about new technology than I do), and the Boeing South Carolina union incident. Newt says he’s very supportive of Tim Scott’s efforts to defund the National Labor Relations Board:
Here’s the live interview. Newt talks about competing in South Carolina, fundraising (his average donation is $76), and Rick Perry’s debate performance:
“In the end when Barack Obama finishes raising a billion dollars using the power of the White House and when the Democratic Machine smears the Republican nominee, if you don’t have a nominee who’s able to get on the same stage with Obama and able to win the debates… I don’t see how you think you’re going to win.
“If somebody says I can’t debate Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich or Michele Bachmann, but I’m going to really be great next year against Barack Obama, I don’t think anybody’s going to believe them.”
He says he thinks Rick will overrule his consultants in regard to the debates. If he doesn’t debate he just looks silly.
