TweetA straw poll at the Kankakee County Fair found that of likely Republican Party voters, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is the top choice as the prospective presidential candidate.
Palin, the vice presidential GOP candidate from the 2008 election, received 19 percent of the votes, said Kim Curlee, secretary for the Kankakee County Republican Central Committee.
At total of 86 ballots were cast. This straw poll was the first time the party conducted a survey at the county fair.
“We are trying to get people to think about the election. We want people to start generating thoughts about 2012,” Curlee said.
Following Palin were: Minnesota U.S Rep. Michele Bachmann, 17 percent; former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, 15 percent; Texas Congressman Ron Paul, 14 percent; Texas Gov. Rick Perry, 12 percent; former Georgia congressman and ex-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, 6 percent; New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, 5 percent; and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, 4 percent.
